CADC fights hunger in Lonoke

CABOT, Ark.  – Central Arkansas Development Council will distribute USDA commodities Wednesday, February 16th beginning at 9 a.m. in Lonoke County. Commodities will be distributed at Allport City Hall, Austin City Hall, Cabot Church of Christ located at 500 North 2nd Street, Carlisle Old City Gym, Humnoke City Hall, Lonoke County Fairgrounds, Ward Chamber of Commerce, Woodlawn Community Center, and the England Community Center. ID must be present in order to receive commodities.

The food items to be distributed may include cream style corn, spaghetti sauce, apple juice, peaches, beef stew, frozen ground beef, canned pork, great northern beans, and cheddar cheese.

To be eligible to receive USDA commodities, income guidelines must be met. The income guidelines for this program are based on 130% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. Based on these guidelines, a one person household must make less than $1,174 per month to qualify.

SEARCY, Ark. — St. James Catholic Church’s third annual International Food Festival and Silent Auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the church hall at 1102 Pioneer Road. Patrons will be able to taste recipes from around the world. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Raffle tickets are available for prizes of $200 and $500. All proceeds will go to the church.

SEARCY, Ark. - Officer Lynn Smith, a patrolman for the Searcy Police Department, poses with children at the Tender Loving Care Early Learning Center on E. Moore. The children learned about community helpers this week with visits from Searcy Police Officers, Searcy Firemen, NorthStar Paramedics, and a nurse.

The 9th annual Christmas Tree Gallery of Dreams is once again under way at Harding Place at 801 South Benton in Searcy. 

 

Enjoy refreshments while getting a peek at the dozens of beautifully decorated trees on display.  Celebrate the spirit of the season by bringing a gift to place under the tree of your choice.  Gifts will benefit the foster children of White County.  Open house is 5-7 p.m.
