Wold renowned Kinsey Collection Comes to MTCC

Join MTCC for the opening of our largest exhibit to date, African American Treasures from the Kinsey Collection. This once in a life changing exhibit, that is currently on display at Epcot Center at Walt Disney World will open at MTCC on Friday, April 8, at 6PM. The exhibit contains rare, one of a kind artifacts that will be displayed in Arkansas for the first time ever. These artifacts work to dispel the myth of absence and demonstrate that African American history is American history.

The opening will feature a presentation by the Kinseys, refreshments, and live entertainment provided by Rodney Block and the Real Music Lovers.

Searcy to host high school robotics competition

Searcy to host high school robotics competition

SEARCY, Ark. (KTHV) - The city of Searcy will be participating in a worldwide kickoff of the 2016 season of FIRST® Robotics Competition.

The Searcy competition will include 17 high school teams, grades 9-12. At kickoff, teams will be shown the FIRST STRONGHOLDSM game field and challenge details for the first time, and they will receive a Kit of Parts made up of motors, batteries, control system components, construction materials and a mix of additional automation components – with limited instructions. Teams will have six weeks to design and build a robot to meet this year's engineering challenge.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is an annual competition that challenges high-school students, working alongside professional mentors, to construct a robot of their own and compete in the ultimate Sport for the Mind™ that measures the effectiveness of each robot and the power of teamwork and collaboration.

Searcy's annual 'Winter Art Show and Sale'

SEARCY, Ark. (KTHV) -    The Creative Arts Society will be having their annual "Winter Art Show and Sale" at the Searcy Armory located at 3105 S. Main St. on November 14.

The event is bringing in artists from all over Arkansas and surrounding states offering works of paintings in a variety of different mediums , ceramics, wood turnings, stained glass and other forms of fine art.

The Diagnostic Learning Center of Searcy will be raising funds by selling food and refreshments. There will be live entertainment and door prizes every hour. There will be art from surrounding public schools with an awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m., where ribbons and cash prizes will be presented to the winners. There will also be a painting donated to the White County Cancer Center in remembrance of Rosalinde Gilpin at this time.

Wes Moore continues Harding University distinguished lecture series

SEARCY, Ark. — Approximately 700 people attended the second presentation of Harding University’s American Studies Institute Distinguished Lecture Series Tuesday, Nov. 3 with author Wes Moore. The message of his presentation, titled “Potential of Education for Transformational Impact,” encouraged students to use their skills, knowledge and passions to make a difference in the world.

“’What is your major?’ is not the most important question you will ever be asked. ‘Who did you fight for?’ is,” Moore said. “Higher education is defined by your ability to take the things that you have learned to make it matter to someone else besides yourself that you were even there.”

A decorated Army combat veteran, youth advocate and CEO of BridgeEdU, Moore shared moving stories about his friends and family making a difference in the world, and he revealed some insight into one of his New York Times best-selling books — “The Other Wes Moore.”

Searcy Armory hosting annual Winter Art Show and Sale

White County Reality Check Outdoor Expo

SEARCY, Ark. (KTHV) - Big C Entertainment will present the 2015 Reality Check White County Outdoor Expo on October 24 and 25 in an effort to raise money for a child in need. 

A child was diagnosed with cancer behind both eyes just 15 days after birth. Now, individuals in the White County community are coming together to raise money for her treatment. 

The Reality Check White County Outdoor Expo will be featuring various reality T.V. show actors for meet and greets with the public. Justin, Liz, Glenn and Jessica from Swamp People will be at the expo on Saturday, October 24 from noon until 4 p.m. The public can also get a chance to meet Hunter and Kelsie from Party Down South 2 on Sunday, October 25 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Other than the meet and greets, there will also be various vendors and food trucks set up as well as fun activities for the whole family. Tickets are $5 per adult each day. Kids ages 5 and under get in free.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts 2015-16 Science and Arts Café lecture series will feature Henderson State University professor Dr. Travis Langley and several ASMSA faculty members.

The first lecture on Thursday, Oct. 8, features ASMSA French instructor Bryan Adams, who will present “French Crash Course Using the AIM Method.” AIM stands for Accelerative Integrated Methodology, which uses gestures, music, dance and theater to help students learn a new language. Adams’ lecture will help attendees learn some French using AIM during the session.
