LITTLE ROCK, ARK.ARKids First, the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program, and Radio Disney are hosting a series of events across Arkansas to educate children and their families about summer safety and further promote the importance of childhood nutrition.  ARKids First is partnering with the Arkansas Summer Food Service Program for the series “Summer Safety Road Show” events. Children will be able to enjoy both Radio Disney-led physical activities and games, along with free, nutritious meals and snacks at each event. The locations and dates are as follows:

The summer usually brings a welcome abundance of time and activities for Arkansas kids and their families, but it also brings unintended consequences in the form of more accidents, injuries, spills and insect bites.  Arkansas hospitals historically report an increase in the number of emergency department visits during summer months, so the goal of the ARKids Summer Safety Road Show is to help give kids and families they information they need to prevent those ER-inducing mishaps.

ARKids First representatives will be on hand at events to distribute educational materials about how to keep children safe during the active summer months and encourage parents of enrolled children to utilize their ARKids benefits for well-child doctor visits. Radio Disney will reinforce these messages with fun music and interactive games. All events and materials are available at no cost to children and families.

ARKids First serves more than 334,000 children in Arkansas who might have been uninsured without this program. The program encourages parents to develop a relationship with a primary care physician and set up well-child check-ups for their children in order to stay current on immunizations and other important health screenings. Among other benefits, ARKids First also covers vision and dental care without the need for a referral from a doctor.
