MT. VERNON, Ark. (KTHV) – Lauren Cook has nominated the late Barbara Baker as her My Town Hero.

Baker, once a teacher at Mt. Vernon-Enola High School, passed in early April after losing her battle with cancer, according to Cook. She said Baker began teaching at Mt. Vernon-Enola in either the late 70s or early 80s and continued to teach through chemo treatments and all of its side effects, showing students the value of working hard and teaching material that would become useful in the real world.

“Once you got in her class and got to know her, you found out she was witty, nice, and the most caring teacher in the district,” reflected Cook. “She was beyond dedicated to her job and her students.”
