5-year-old drowns in Searcy swimming pool | News
SEARCY, Ark. (KTHV) - Police say a 5-year-old boy is dead after being pulled unresponsive from a Searcy apartment swimming pool Wednesday around 8 p.m.
Police said the 5-year old boy was pulled from the pool at the apartment complex where he lived. Searcy police public information officer Corporal Steve Hernandez said when officers arrived at The Ridge Apartment Complex, a bystander was already attempting CPR.
"Another child actually told the adult that there looked like there was a child at the bottom of the pool , and at that point, the adult actually got the child out," described Hernandez. "One of the bystanders, along with our officer, performed CPR on the child until Northstar Ambulance Service got there, and he was transported to the White County Medical Center."
Hernandez said 30 minutes later, the child was pronounced dead by doctors at the hospital, and they still don't have any idea of how the little boy ended up in the pool.
"Right now we're unsure of how he actually ended up in the swimming pool. Of course our detectives are looking into this to find out if there's anything more to it other than it being an accident," he said.
The apartment complex did have signs posted at the pool stating no lifeguard was on duty and anyone under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The pool was also surrounded by gates.
"There were people out there, but right now we don't have anybody who's actually witnessed him going into the water," Hernandez explained.
Police are speaking with the mother to find out how the child may have gotten into the pool area.
