American Red Cross supporting emergency shelter for Searcy storm victims

SEARCY, Ark. (August 5, 2015) - After a line of severe storms with damaging winds moved across the state Wednesday afternoon, blowing the roof off the Race Street Apartments off East Race Avenue, the American Red Cross has opened an emergency shelter in Searcy.

The shelter is located at 801 South Elm Street in Searcy at the Carmichael Community Center.

The Red Cross is providing cots, blankets and food. For personal comfort, persons coming to the shelter are encouraged to bring the following items as needed:

  • Prescription medication
  • Medical supplies (diabetic, asthma, etc.)
  • Dentures/hearing aids
  • Glasses/contacts + solution
  • A change of clothing
  • Pillow, special blanket
  • Pack of diapers, extra clothes for babies
  • Baby formula/food
  • Snacks
  • Quiet toys, games for kids and adults
  • Extra batteries for electronic equipment + ear plugs/headphones
  • Personal Identification
  • Phone charger
