SEARCY, Ark. (KTHV) -- Searcy Police are investigating a homicide.
Officers responded to a call around 8:00 p.m. Sunday to an office building, where they found Zachery Mitchell dead. Mitchell was shot while cleaning at Nephrology Associates on Langley road. He was 24 years old. While police search for his killer his family sits in shock.
"Zach was the best son anyone could ever ask for." Patricia Staggs sits with her husband by her side in disbelief. Her son Zach Mitchell was murdered Sunday night. She said her son loved football and played his whole life, it was a passion he wanted to pass down to his child. Zachery leaves behind a 3 year old son. "He just thought the world of that baby, and now he's going to have to grow up without a father."
Mitchell was working as a janitor at Nephrology Associates. Terry Lee with the Searcy Police Department says he was cleaning the office alone. When two friends went by to visit him-they discovered he had been shot and called officers.
"We're following some leads, but it is still really early we are just doing some follow ups. We are trying to follow everything to make sure we see the complete picture of what happened." Lee says there are no apparent signs of a break in, but they are still looking into that possibility.
Zach's mother Patricia works at Nephrology Associates where Zach was murdered. She says now all she can do is find answers. "I just pray to God that they catch whoever did this to him because I want to look them in the eye and ask why. I just want to know why that they had to take my baby and Keagan's daddy."
His body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime lab for an autopsy. If you have any information on this you can contact Searcy police. The family is offering a $5000 reward.
