AETN to host four debates in ‘Election 2012’

CONWAY, Ark. (AETN) — Candidates in four races have agreed to participate in “Election 2012: The Debates,” which will tape and air on the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) Oct. 23-25.

All debates will be held at the AETN studios, 350 South Donaghey Avenue, on the University of Central Arkansas campus in Conway. Seating is limited, and seats may be reserved by calling 800-662-2386. Doors will open one hour prior to taping times.

A Special Called Council meeting has been scheduled for September 18 at 5 p.m. at Searcy City Hall.  The purpose of the meeting is to confirm and ratify the adoption of Resolution 2012-25 (A & P Tax Resolution) which was adopted by Searcy City Council on August 14, 2012.

There are two special City Council meetings scheduled for next week here at Searcy City Hall.

  • Monday, July 16 @ 12 noon for the purpose of conducting an interview for the City Clerk/Treasurer position.
  • Tuesday, July 17 @ 5:00 p.m. for the purpose of conducting interviews for the City Clerk/Treasurer position.

When the schedule was adopted to select a replacement for the Clerk/Treasurer vacancy, a time was not set for the July 20 meeting.  The attached schedule now reflects a 2 p.m. time for the special council meeting on Friday, July 20.

How to be elected to city council

Members of the City Council of the City of Searcy, Arkansas, are elected to two year terms, with elections taking place in even-numbered years.  Having moved to non-partisan elections, no primary election will be held for these offices and properly nominated candidates will face off during the general election, held on November 8, 2012.  The City of Searcy is divided into four (4) wards, each having two seats on the council.

The City of Searcy has confirmed with the White County Clerk, Marquita Teague, that candidates for seats on the Searcy City Council should file nominating petitions with her office, located at 315 North Spruce Street, Searcy, Arkansas, on the west side of the historic Searcy court square, on or before 12:00, noon, on May 21, 2012.  These petitions can be filed with the County Clerk beginning Tuesday, May 1, 2012.
