White Co. participates in 'Operation Drug Take Back'

WHITE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Several locations in White County are participating in a statewide campaign aimed at disposing of expired or unwanted prescriptions. 

This event is not only for prescription drugs, but also over-the-counter drugs are welcome. Arkansas Prescription Drug Take Back in White County will be held Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m.

SEARCY, Ark. (Main Street Searcy Swing) - Main Street Searcy invites you to attend Swing Into Spring on April 23 to raise money for Main Street Searcy's downtown projects. 

On Thursday, April 23 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. the Robbins Sanford Grand Hall will be hosting a celebration from downtown Searcy with silent and live auctions, food and live entertainment. 

Tickets are $25 per person. All of the proceeds will go towards non- profit organization Main Street Searcy. The tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling the Main Street office at 279-9007.

MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - If you are looking for a new home, now could be the time to buy. But declining home values in Arkansas aren't good news for everyone.

According to CoreLogic, average home prices are up across the country. They're 7.4 percent higher compared to prices last summer. But in Arkansas, home prices have gone down by 2 percent.

"There's not one thing in particular to pinpoint, just a lot of people decide to sell at the same time," said broker Kim Burkes.

In 2014, 269 more homes were listed than in 2013, but the average sale price has gone down from $192,624 to $184,070, according to the Cooperative Arkansas Realtors Multiple Listing Service.

"Some of those may be foreclosures and short sales which brings the general price down," Burkes said.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Arkansas Realtors has gathered a list of vacant rental properties for storm victims.

The list has homes from all over the central Arkansas area. This list is intended serve as a resource for the displaced storm victims to search for a new home while they rebuild their lives. This website will be constantly updated as more lists of rental properties available are received.

A Special Called Searcy City Council meeting has been set for 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20.

The purpose for the Special Council meeting is to officially declare the property located at 400 West Woodruff Avenue a nuisance property (northwest corner of Woodruff Avenue & Elm Street).

The previously scheduled “Committee of the Whole” meeting will immediately follow.

IRS offers incentive to first-time homebuyers in Arkansas

The Arkansas Development Finance Authority (ADFA) recently introduced a program that offers a Federal Tax Credit for First-Time-Homebuyers.  It is called the Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) Program.  The MCC Program is offered by the Internal Revenue Service to encourage borrowers to buy their first home. 

For borrowers that qualify, if offers them up to a $2,000 Federal tax credit for each year that the house they are buying is used as their principal residence.  To qualify borrowers must be first-time-homebuyers, except in targeted counties; must meet household income limits, which vary by county; and not exceed a purchase price of $225,000.  The MCC is not part of the home financing, but rather an incentive the IRS offers to get first-time-homebuyers to buy a home.
