Arkansas Saxophone Quartet at ASU-Beebe

 

BEEBE, Ark.-The Arkansas State University-Beebe Department of Music will present the Arkansas Saxophone Quartet in a lecture/concert on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Science Building Lecture Hall.

The group consists of saxophone professors Dr. Andy Wen, soprano saxophone from University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Dr. Carolyn Taylor, alto saxophone from Ouachita Baptist University, Dr. Brent Bristow, tenor saxophone from ASU-Beebe, and Dr. Jackie Lamar, baritone saxophone University of Central Arkansas. The performance will feature a lecture on the history of the saxophone quartet and will include various musical excerpts from the late 1800 to today.

2011-12 Homing for Riverview was a Great day and with a BIG win for everyone. Congratulations to Riverview High School Senior Homecoming Queen for 2011-12 "Cara Tomlinson". Congratulations to the Seniors who take the win for the best float.  Congratulations to the Riverview football team for their big win.

Harding approved to administer online Praxis tests

SEARCY, Ark. — In November, the Harding University Testing Office will offer computer-delivered Praxis tests for the first time after receiving approval from the Educational Testing Service.

As a Praxis computer-based provider, the Testing Office will offer Praxis I- Reading, Writing, & Mathematics by appointment on Monday through Saturday. Students will have the option of a morning or afternoon session for testing.  Additional Praxis II tests will be available in the Testing Office throughout the year on scheduled dates provided by ETS. This information as well as test fees may be found on the Praxis website at www.ets.org/praxis. Students will continue to register for the Praxis I and II exams through the Educational Testing Service. The Harding University Testing Office information will be listed on Nov.

Congratulations to the Riverview Homecoming Court for 2011-12.

 The Riverview Homecoming football game will be Friday, October 14, at the Riverview High School football stadium.  Riverview students are celebrating the Homecoming week by dressing up every day to show their school pride.  A Bonfire Pep rally will be at the high school baseball parking lot Thursday at 7:00 pm.  Friday events include a Tailgate party at 5:00, parade of floats at 6:00, the game at 7:00, and at halftime announcement of the Homecoming Queen for 2011-12.

All Riverview Alumni, Elementary campuses, and community members are welcome to come and enjoy the fun.  After the ballgame, the high school Pep Club is sponsoring a Homecoming Dance in the high school cafeteria for grades 9-12 until 12:00.

Riverview receives Walmart Grant

Congratulations to the Riverview School District, who received a $2,000  grant from the Walmart Foundation for technology equipment to purchase two of the Mimio Teach Interactive Systems.

Two teachers were selected from a committee to receive the equipment based on their Professional Development received for the Mimio Teach.  The teachers are Riverview Jr. High Math teacher Mr. Jim Furniss and Riverview Kensett Elementary Kindergarten teacher Ms. Katrina Mills.

Congratulations to Riverview Jr. High and High School Fine Arts/Choir Teacher Mrs. Amy Thomas who received a free Apple iPad for class instruction.  Mrs. Thomas plans to use the Ipad with the Internet in order to access performances on "You Tube" to show her students.  The Ipad will provide students the opportunity to learn from other performers, study and watch the performances on TV, and hear them clearly.  Mrs. Thomas said the learning possibilities for her students are endless with the iPad capabilities.

9/11 firefighter kicks off Harding Lecture Series

SEARCY, Ark. — The 2011-12 American Studies Institute Distinguished Lecture Series will kick off at Harding University on Thursday, Oct. 6 with New York Fire Department Chief Richard Picciotto at 7:30 p.m. in the Benson Auditorium.

Chief Richard “Pitch” Picciotto is the highest-ranking firefighter to survive the World Trade Center collapse that occurred as a result of terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. He was the last fireman to escape the devastation and was in a stairwell of the North Tower when it collapsed. He was buried for more than four hours. Picciotto is the author of Last Man Down, a New York Times bestseller and a 28-year veteran of the New York Fire Department.
